ADA & WCAG 2.1 AA
Accessibility statement
What we build to, the controls on this site, and how to tell us when something does not work for you.
Our commitment
We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA, the standard used to judge compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Accessibility is treated as ongoing work rather than a finished checkbox, and this statement is updated as the site changes.
Controls built into this site
The accessibility button sits in the bottom-right corner of every page. Your choices are saved in your browser and stay applied as you move around the site. It offers:
- Four text sizes, scaling the whole page rather than only body copy
- High contrast, black on white with heavier borders
- Highlight links, underlining and outlining every link so they do not rely on color
- Readable font, replacing the uppercase display face with a plain one
- More text spacing, at the line, word and letter spacing values in WCAG 1.4.12
- Reduce motion, stopping animation and smooth scrolling
There is also a Reset all button, and the panel closes with the Escape key and returns focus to the button that opened it.
What we build in by default
- A skip to main content link as the first focusable element on every page
- Visible focus outlines on every link, button and form control
- Touch targets of at least 44 by 44 pixels
- Body text contrast of at least 4.5 to 1 before any high-contrast setting is applied
- Form fields with visible labels, help text that stays on screen, and errors announced next to the field they belong to
- Headings in order, landmark regions, and descriptive labels on icon-only buttons
- Respect for your operating system’s own reduced motion setting, whether or not you use the control here
- Layouts that reflow to 320 pixels wide without horizontal scrolling
Known limitations
Some quoting tools and partner pages we link to are operated by third parties. We do not control their code and cannot guarantee they meet the same standard. If a partner tool blocks you, tell us and we will find another way to get you a quote.
Tell us about a barrier
If any part of this site stops you doing what you came to do, we want to hear about it, and we will help you complete your request another way in the meantime. Send it through our contact form — say which page you were on and what happened, and we will respond.
